End of last year Sietse called asking me if I would be interested to take part in an interview for his Youtube channel DRUMPRAAT. The DrumPeople & the LED’s Have A Ball Shows are very popular within the corporate event scene. As the lockdown ended last spring, we kickstarted a series of assignments with fresh ideas, new music, instruments and technical materials which led to a whole new range of performances. Thanks to clients like BMW, KPN, SER, YOUTUBE, ING, VORM and TU Delft, for putting up with our excitement! And after a warm Summer we’re back on track. That’s what I was up to! THE BAARN PROJECT

Since the summer of 2020 composer/arranger Koen van Baal and I are co-writing, arranging and recording the music of german singer/songwriter Max M. Lueders. The release of the first track ‘Memories’.took place in the spring of 2021. We steadily continue the creative process until the full album is ready. Producing this project is fun. To be working with so many talented, creative people, an indescribable joy. Studio sessions with Leendert Haaksma (guitars), Baer Traa, Lo van Gorp, Simone Pormes & Dedre Twiss (backing vocals), Ilse de Vries (bass) and Holger Schwedt (studio engineer). Stay tuned for our new releases and streams!

Another great thing that I would like to share is the facelift my beloved Amsterdam audio/video studio underwent. It looks great, sounds great and opens up new possibilities for video recording, online teaching, etc. My great friend photographer/graphic designer Meriel Verheul took some pictures to share the atmosphere with y’all. CHRIS MULLER QUARANTINE TRIO
A ‘social distancing’ collaboration with pianist Chris Muller and double bassist Bart Tarenskeen resulted in three unexpectedly pleasant video’s, recorded long distance at our home studios in April May and June of this year. One Wayne Shorter track and two Chris Muller originals and all great arrangements also by the latter. Hope you enjoy!

FRANC’s ONLINE DRUMLESSONS
One thing leads to another. Already for years I wanted to be available for online lessons. I now finally realized it in less then one week, also thanks to the help that I got from my students Floris and Servio. For my current students I am available with state of the art online sessions starting tomorrow! And if you want to start as a new student, just let me know! I feel this is going to be a lot of fun!

Tom and I know each other for a long time, we both grew up musically in Leiden. Couple of years ago we joined the Quintet of trombone player Bart Lust -who sadly passed away two years ago-. We recorded the album ‘Don’t Touch the Bell’ and toured for some years. Check the titletrack in the player on this website!
Our mutual Leiden buddy Karel Boehlee and superbassist Boudewijn Lucas join us on March 15th for what seems to become a ‘Sort of Michael Brecker’ tribute.

Percussion and drums in the Concertgebouw is always special, obviously. But this concert, with famous Kantor Netanel Hershtik and dear friend/conductor Jules van Hessen and his Maestro Jules Orchestra, was extra special due to the level of performance of everybody invloved and the wonderful audience. An honour honoring Jewish traditions…

A priviledge to perform with one of Holland’s -if not Europe’s- top jazz performers -and one of my dearest friends-. Toon Roos is a multi prize-winning and honoured saxophonist and composer, who has shared the stage with some of the greatest in jazz, like Joe Zawinul (Weather Report), Steely Dan, Toots Thielemans and Peter Erskine (Weather Report & Steps Ahead).  With Karel Boehlee (piano), Boudewijn Lucas (bass) and myself (drums). Jazz Sociëteit Wassenaar celebrated the end of the season with an exhilerating live-music night hosted by Frits Landesbergen (vibes) & me. They held the seats in the houseband together with Karel Boehlee (piano) & Boudewijn Lucas (bas). Guest appearances by artists booked for the upcoming season, such as Toon Roos (sax), Ellister van der Molen (trp), Bob Wijnen (pno), Charli Green (trp) en Bert Damsma (dbl bass).

4,5,6,10,11,12MAY|OORLOGSWINTER (WARWINTER), THE MUSICAL-Opmeer, Noord-Holland. Appropriately premiered on MAY 4th and staged at a regional prominent Second World War site, I held the drummers’ seat as this impressive musical was being performed.

Karel Boehlee, Theo de Jong and yours truly performed jazz and soul songs with one of Holland’s greatest vocalists, mr. HUMPHREY CAMPBELL. Surprise guest was Bird Award winning saxophonist Toon Roos.

Dear friend and mentor HANS CLEUVER passed away March 4th. Rest in Peace, Hans. You will be missed.

My pleasure! Na eengedenkwaardige middagconcert met de muziek van Toots Thielemans in Wassenaar speelde ik ‘s avonds met de Amerikaanse trombonist T.S. Galloway en zijn bigband in De Nieuwe KHL te Amsterdam.

The All American Evening Festival had a very successfull launch last 22SEP. Great Blues and on behalf of JSW a great line up with the likes of Frits Landesbergen, Baer Traa, Karel Boehlee, Marcel Schimscheimer and me, myself and I.

APRIL 2016|Rick Margitza Group toured Holland
Margitza played with Miles Davis(!), Maynard Ferguson, McCoy Tyner and Chick Corea, was guest soloist for WDR Bigband and Royal Concertgebouw Jazz Orchestra. Now back in Holland for a series of intimate quartet concerts. With Rick Margitza (tenor sax), Martijn van Iterson (guitar), Frans van der Hoeven (double bass), Franc auf dem Brinke (drums).
